Education: Successful completion of Year 10 or the equivalent level of study or mature aged entry

Prior Experience: At least 12 months’ experience working in a team leadership, supervisory or management environment.  A moderate level of computer literacy to complete assessments and utilise workplace systems

Equipment: Laptop computer and access to an internet connection to study in class and/or online. Including access to Microsoft office suite of software or equivalent (google / apple).

On completion of the Diploma of Leadership and Management, participants will be able to:

Assessment is practical and workplace‑focused, designed to reflect real leadership and management activities. Participants are assessed through a combination of applied tasks, scenarios and evidence drawn from their own work context.
Ongoing support is provided throughout the course to ensure participants understand requirements and can confidently demonstrate competency.

Assessment design

• AT 1 Questioning (Knowledge Evidence)
• AT 2 -5 (depending on unit requirements) Product based Methods including reports, work samples, plans, evidence of activities such as emails, meetings etc. (Performance Evidence) and observations such as video submissions.

Delivery is organised into three integrated clusters:

Cluster 1: Leading Self
This cluster focuses on personal leadership capability, including emotional intelligence, communication and critical thinking. Learners develop self‑awareness, influence and professional effectiveness as a foundation for leading others.

Cluster 2: Leading Others
This cluster builds the capability required to lead teams and people, manage performance, foster inclusive and effective workplace relationships, and create high‑performing teams.

Cluster 3: Leading Business Results
This cluster focuses on leading within the broader organisational context, including operational planning, risk management, financial management and continuous improvement to support sustainable business outcomes.

The course delivery is designed to be practical, applied and relevant to existing workers, with learning activities, discussions and assessments aligned to realistic workplace leadership and management scenarios.

Delivery includes:

• 10 Instructor‑led, face‑to‑face workshops, delivered by experienced facilitators
• 12 Online learning resources to support knowledge development and self‑study
• Workplace‑based learning and assessment, enabling participants to apply learning directly to their role

Learning is sequenced so that each cluster builds on the previous one, supporting progressive capability development across the duration of the course.

The course encourages learners to take concepts, tools and techniques from the workshops back into their workplace, where they can apply and practise their leadership and management skills in real situations. Learners have access to trainer support throughout their learning journey.

The Diploma of Leadership and Management is designed to be completed within 12 months, recognising the needs of working professionals.

Participants should expect a combination of:

• Attendance at the workshops (10 days)
• Self-study (2-3 hrs a week for 12 months)
• Assessment preparation and completion (approx. 12hrs per month for 12 months)
• Workplace practice (working in leadership and management workplace environments over the duration of the learning – approx. 14hrs per week over 12 months)

Assessments are completed progressively throughout the course as learners move through each cluster, allowing capability to be developed and demonstrated over time rather than through a single end‑point assessment.

The blended delivery model provides flexibility while maintaining structure and support, enabling participants to balance study with work commitments while achieving a nationally recognised qualification.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer options are available for eligible participants with relevant experience or prior qualifications. This provides flexibility and recognises existing capability.

Further learner information

This course leads to the award of the BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management, a nationally recognised qualification issued by Certitude (RTO 46433).

Certitude’s courses are aligned to the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA), with learning outcomes mapped to relevant skills and responsibility levels where applicable, supporting workforce capability development and progression.
