There are no entry requirements for this course however some exposure to projects would be beneficial.

The Foundation Course will enable students to:

• Understand the definitions, scope and objectives of benefits management, barriers to its effective practice, and the key success characteristics;
• Understand the principles upon which successful approaches to benefits management are based;
• Understand the five practices contained within the Benefits Management Cycle and relevant techniques applicable to each practice;
• Gain a knowledge of the scope of key roles and responsibilities for benefits management and the typical contents of the main benefits management documentation;
• Understand the approaches to implementation and the factors to consider in sustaining progress; and
• Be fully prepared to undertake the Foundation exam.

The Foundation Course will cover:

• The seven principles of benefits management;
• The five practices in the benefits management cycle;
• The application of benefits management at a collective or portfolio level;
• Getting started in implementing effective benefits management practices and how to sustain progress; and
• Thorough preparation for the Foundation exam.

Senior executives, senior responsible owners (SROs), project and programme managers, portfolio managers, business case writers, finance professionals and benefits managers.

• 50 questions per paper
• 25 marks or more required to pass (out of 50 available) – 50%
• 40 minutes duration
• Closed-book

Students that successfully complete this course are eligible to go on and complete the Practitioner course.

The Practitioner course will assist in developing a detailed knowledge of the framework and understanding how it can be used in the workplace.

Students will be provided with:

• Access to an electronic version of the manual;
• Access to electronic versions of sample exam papers (including answers);
• Printed copy of a student workbook; and
• Access to electronic version of presentation slides.

A hardcopy version of the manual can be purchased at an additional cost.

Is this the Foundation or Practitioner level?

Do I need project management experience first?

It helps, but it isn’t required. Foundation is designed to build your understanding of benefits management from the ground up.

Yes. Managing Benefits™ is an internationally recognised APMG certification, with CPD recognition from AIPM and PMI.

How long do I have access?

Twelve months of full access to complete the course and sit the exam.
