Delivering capability within a Defence environment requires professionals who can navigate complexity, uncertainty and strategic change. Therefore, Army Headquarters (AHQ) invested in targeted project and program management capability development.

To support this initiative, Certitude Australia delivered specialist PRINCE2 Agile® and Managing Successful Programmes (MSP®) training as part of the Land Capability Professional Development Program.

As an Accredited Training Organisation through PeopleCert and APMG, Certitude combined internationally recognised frameworks with practical Defence examples. In addition, Certitude aligned the training with the One Defence Capability System (ODCS). This approach helped participants apply their learning immediately within Defence capability programs.

The Challenge

Army Headquarters operates in an environment where project delivery, capability acquisition and organisational change occur simultaneously. As a result, personnel must balance evolving priorities with strong governance and accountability.

To support its professional development objectives, AHQ sought training in both programme management and agile project delivery. However, the organisation wanted more than a theory-based learning experience. The training needed to reflect the realities of Defence capability planning, acquisition and delivery.

Furthermore, AHQ required training that aligned with the One Defence Capability System and the governance frameworks used across Defence. The solution needed to be practical, relevant and immediately applicable in the workplace.

The Solution

Certitude designed and delivered a customised project and program management training solution centred on two globally recognised frameworks:

PRINCE2 Agile®

PRINCE2 Agile combines structured governance with agile ways of working. Consequently, Defence personnel can maintain appropriate oversight while increasing flexibility and responsiveness. The course explored how Defence organisations can apply agile practices within complex delivery environments. In addition, Certitude contextualised the content to Defence capability development activities and the One Defence Capability System

Managing Successful Programmes (MSP®)

MSP provides a structured framework for managing large-scale change and delivering strategic outcomes. Furthermore, it helps organisations align projects, benefits and business objectives. Participants developed practical skills in programme governance, benefits management, stakeholder engagement and transformational change leadership. As a result, they gained a stronger understanding of how coordinated programmes support Defence capability outcomes.

Certitude delivered the training virtually and supported each session with Defence-specific scenarios, practical examples and facilitated discussion. Consequently, participants could connect the concepts directly to their roles and responsibilities.

The Outcomes

Through the delivery of specialist Defence training, Certitude helped strengthen project and program management capability across Army Headquarters.
