Participants must successfully complete the MoP® Foundation Exam prior to attempting the MoP® Practitioner Exam.

The Foundation Course will enable students to understand the:

• Scope and objectives of portfolio management and how it differs from programme and project management;
• Principles upon which successful portfolio management is based;
• Approaches to implementation, the factors to consider in maintaining progress, and how to assess the success of portfolio management;
• Purposes of the portfolio management definition and delivery cycles and their component practices, and relevant techniques applicable to each practice;
• Purpose and key content of the major portfolio documents;
• Scope of key portfolio management roles; and
• Be fully prepared to undertake the Foundation exam.

The Practitioner course will enable students to demonstrate their ability to:

• Define the business case to get senior management approval for portfolio management;
• Plan the implementation of portfolio management;
• Select and adapt MoP principles, practices and techniques to suit different organisational environments;
• Evaluate examples of MoP information (including documents and role descriptions);
• Analyse the solutions adopted in relation to a given scenario; and
• Be fully prepared to undertake the Practitioner exam.

The following topics will be covered in the Foundation Course:

• Introduction: What is portfolio management?;
• Value management and its the strategic and organisational context;
• portfolio management principles;
• portfolio management cycles;
• portfolio definition practices;
• portfolio delivery practices;
• portfolio management documents;
• portfolio management roles and responsibilities; and
• Preparation for the Foundation Examination.

The Practitioner course is scenario-based, and focuses on the application of MoP under different programme environments and scenarios. Review and revision sessions of all MoP elements are included throughout the training. Students will work through a range of exercises and case studies in order to broaden and deepen their understanding of Portfolio Management and to prepare for the exam.

• 3 hours duration
• Restricted open book – The MoP Manual may be used in the exam

Students will be provided with:

• Access to an electronic version of the manual;
• Access to electronic versions of sample exam papers (including answers);
• Printed copy of a student workbook; and
• Access to electronic version of presentation slides.

A hardcopy version of the manual can be purchased at an additional cost.

Is MoP now called PRINCE2 Portfolio Management?
Yes. PeopleCert has brought Management of Portfolios (MoP®) into the PRINCE2 family as PRINCE2 Portfolio Management. It’s the same certification with aligned branding.

How is portfolio management different from programme management?
Programme management delivers a set of related projects well; portfolio management decides which projects and programmes to invest in at all, and balances them against strategy and capacity.
